It’s not as easy as it might think. If you want to take care of yourself as a musician, you first need to know what your needs are and what is good for yourself. Your needs can start with the cup of coffee you need now and continue with the good rehearsal room.
It gets more difficult with knowing what is good for yourself as a musician. Good for yourself – to what purpose? You can only know what is good for yourself, if you know your purpose.
My purpose is, to become an old and wise woman. If I want to become old, it seems like a good idea to stay healthy. 6 weeks ago I started exercising again, 3 times a week for half an hour. I also switched to a vegetarian food pattern, with loads of vegetables. But how to become wise? Reading and reflecting on what I’m doing might be the right way.
Is your purpose to have a long-lasting career as musician? You will need a good health for that, next to good skills and a good network.
If becoming a great artist is your purpose, you need to become a good player of your instrument and know how to find new inspiration.
If you don’t know your purpose, you might feel guilty when taking good care of yourself. You might think that you can better rehearse or work instead of doing some exercises or reading a book.
